Game Polisher (run by hd4life) hosted their 5th broadcast today, Saturday, September 4th, and had 22 live listeners. Hosts today were hd4life with assistance from W!TS, and a guest host named Will, who is a 9 year old game developer. WOW! Topics are mostly about what happened this summer in GM, because Game Polisher was off air all summer. They reviewed Circle Rider by Spydog, which was made in GM for Competition 06, and a flash game called Hot Ninja Moon Moon by Scattle. They hosted a contest, which declared Banov (the creator of Dubloon and Assassin's Blue) as winner. Banov will put in his game idea and Glitchy Games will create the game.

GMINDIE AND GMVISION HAVE TEAMED UP TO PRODUCE a Game Maker survey which will produce a list of what Game Maker users do on average, as well as help with the development of the popular software, Game Maker, by YoYo Games, Ltd.

The survey is exactly 60 questions in length, and features questions like What was the first version of Game Maker you ever used?, What new feature(s) do you think Game Maker needs?, Do you think the mac port is good, or a waste of money?, etc.

I THINK THAT GAME MAKER HATES SANDY DUNCAN because it refuses to work with him.

NOTE: This happened like WAY MORE than 10 times in a row. I closed Game Maker and re-opened it to test it again. I even went and tried this same thing with pictures of other people, and it didn't crash. I tried Sandy Duncan, and it crashed... I was only able to get Game Maker to NOT crash with Sandy Duncan once, and that was like attempt #30.

Here's what happened: I was creating 2 sprites so that I could change one's opacity and put it over Sandy for an article. It didn't want to co-operate. I eventually gave up and used PhotoShop to do the image.

Attempt #11 (in-a-row):
Sorry for the lag, HyperCam 2 doesn't like me today... =(

KC_LC HAS SUDDENLY RETIRED from the Game Maker Community administration position. Her account now appears listed under the Retired Staff group, after being inactive for a couple of weeks.

YoYo Games staff official, Mike Dailly says that she backed down for "personal reasons", and that she "might come back one day" but isn't able to do it just now. Sandy Duncan also says that it's "very personal". It looks as if that is why no official announcement was made.

A lot of speculating was going on at the Game Maker Community earlier, and hopefully this puts that to rest. Like Smarty (also GMC retired staff) said, "She signed off silently which means she didn't want to give it much attention. This suggests she has reasons she wishes to keep to herself, so I would kindly suggest everyone to stop speculating and respect that choice.". I agree. Though, I admit, I was speculating at first as well (about her 2 week disappearance, not her retirement). I thought she died or something, which would have been awful. It's great to see she's not dead.

She will be missed. Farewell for now, Kasey Apellido.

Think twice before visiting YoYo Games this week!

We're asking everybody planning on visiting YoYo Games to think twice. It has become a high security risk to those without anti-virus software. So far, 17 threats have been reported on the YoYo Games website, 8 of them are viruses, and counting. (According to the anti virus program pages)

There are 2 problems:

Above: Screenshot by Chronic, Retired GMC Staff

1. There are threats coming from the adserver or Google Ads (supposedly). They've been creating files under C:\Program Files\ as well as C:\Windows\System32\

2. There were possible threats found in some of the game downloads by AVG, Norton and Avast. I was told this by a couple folks over Skype just a half hour ago. According to them, they got a virus from one or more of the games found in the spotlight slide on the home page. We're thinking there might be a hacker on top of the other weird things going on. Please scan your files immediately after downloading-with something like AVG before opening. Above all, keep your firewall on, and good luck.

I haven't seen any of the viruses myself. I'm just saying what I've heard from both people and the anti-virus program pages (example: Norton page). I'm also taking precautions.

The following programs have reported problems:
Norton, AVG, Avira, Avast, McAfee, ESET, and many more.

P.S. For all of you that told me about this, I will tell Sandy about it as requested. For all of you non-Windows users, ignore all of the above. It's only happening to Windows users.
NAL (aka Andrew McCluskey), the YoYo Games member who we've all grown to love (famous for his very well programmed games) has officially been hired into the YoYo Games team. Andrew will be helping YoYo Games understand Game Maker better, and be helping developers with game optimizations.

Let's give NAL a warm welcome to the team.
The promised continuation to GMIndie Podcast II (with Sandy Duncan) is finally here. It's pretty much a "show us what you got so far", and then "let's see what we can come up with" kind of podcast. Hope you enjoy it.
