INDIE(FUNCTION); — The new team indie(Function); is now accepting new people to join their team via the "hiring center". Anyone can join, as indie(Function); will go over your application and see if they have any available jobs for you. The form requires you to put your name (or nickname), email, Skype username, skills you can contribute, and why you want to be a part of indie(Function);. The application can be found at the indie(Function); website under the hiring center tab.

INDIE(FUNCTION); — The new website for indie(Function); just launched, and can be found at indieFunction.com. The new layout is a HUGE step up from the previous one, as the layout is no longer just basic HTML and CSS, it includes some fancy new features from CSS 3, including rotating text in the navbar (can only be seen on modern browsers, such as FireFox and Chrome).

The website will be having new pages everyday as new things come out for the indie(Kickoff);.

GAME MAKER GAZETTE — After a 2 month hiatus (we didn't get to post a notice until earlier this month; the hiatus started at the end of January), Game Maker Gazette's status has changed from "idle" to "active". Game Maker Gazette will be hiring more staff members, so if you are interested in working for the Gazette, please comment below and/or send an email to bretboy1@gmail.com.

GAME MAKER GAZETTE — I regret to inform you that Game Maker Gazette will be on hiatus. I haven't had internet since January 25th (yes, I'm counting). We're low on staff members, and they haven't done much lately, so we will be on hiatus. When we come back, however, we will make sure that the site is the most up to date Game Maker news site there is, that way you don't have to visit numerous sites in order to find news - you only have to come here.

We are deeply sorry for this inconvinence, I thought the staff was keeping it up while I didn't have internet, but they weren't.

I love you,
bretboy129 ~ Bret Hudson

GAMEJOLT — GameJolt's newest contest started a little while ago, and is running until Valentine's Day, 2011. That would be Feb. 14th, for those of you who don't know. The contest's theme is "Invention", and is being hosted by the famous NAL. The original topic can be found here.

KniteBlargh
You can interpret "invention" in any way you want (i.e. not everything has to be about inventing the light bulb), so be creative with your usage of this theme!

Prizes:
The prizes for this game are rather creative (compared to most money based competitions). They are games (NAL's favorites), and each place gets to choose from a list of games.

1st place: VVVVVV + Psychonauts or Bully: Scholarship Edition or Super Meat Boy or Minecraft Alpha Code or £8 of games of their choice on Steam or £5 PayPal

2nd and 3rd Place:
VVVVVV or Psychonauts

The Rules:

KniteBlargh
- Your entry must be an original game created just for this contest.
- Your entry must relate to the chosen theme.
- Your entry must be playable on Windows.
- Collaborations are fine. Go for it with someone else! We like team work!
- Only one game submission per person/team.
- There are no restrictions on creation tools, libraries, file sizes or anything like that. We like diversity. Make it in Flash, make it in Construct, code it up from scratch yourself, we don't care.
- Pre-existing code bits are acceptable, but for this contest, we'd prefer you not to use premade game engines. Code bits must have been made by you originally.
- No mandatory fullscreen or resolution changing. Can include a fullscreen/window switching option in-game.
- You're encouraged to place the contest poster in your game, although it's definitely not a requirement.

Make sure you do not user pre-made game engines! That includes 2Dcube's fancy 360 degree gravity platform engine! Do not use them!

How in the world do I enter?
Upload your game to GameJolt and put a link to your game in the contest topic, which can be found here

KniteBlargh

This contest is not endorsed by, or affiliated with, YoYo Games Ltd in any way.

Have a fun time programming and may the best indie game developer win!

GMVision— Not long ago the famed GMVision went down! According to thier website they are just moving to new webservers and will be back soon! So don't worry, but while they are gone, Caniac left us a video.

YOYO GAME STORE — The "YoYo App Store" is now known as the "YoYo Game Store", possibly due to copyright (App Store is a trademark of Apple). Also, please note the new site is the "YoYo Game Store" and not the "YoYo Games Store"! Also, the address has also been changed from Appstore.YoYoGames.com to Store.YoYoGames.com.

The GameMaker Blog did a little research on the submit button on the website:

According to the post, you can actually access the submit section of the website right now. I wouldn't recommend doing so, but the test showed some nice things.

GameMaker Blog says:
After supplying your game name, description, details of the controls used and assigning your creation to a category you can upload an editable (Game Maker 6+) version of your game, an executable file or zipped folder. All uploaded games must be approved by YoYo Games before they appear in the store.

No pricing/revenue information is available, other than a suggestion that payments will be made through PayPal.

Documentation and terms and conditions are not yet present so it is unclear as to whether this process is for the submission of PC games only or for those that are to be/have been modified to appear on iOS.

Let's hope more info comes soon on this interesting topic!

YOYOGAMES APPSTORE — A YoYoGames member Damaged has decided to spam the AppStore for GM4Mac. He has posted multiple sexual adverisements in the comments section of the download page for GM4Mac, and it seems nothing has been done. What some people don't notice is that its THE Damaged, a retired staff at the GMC. Now what happened, did he get really bored and start spamming or was his account hacked? Here are the pictures of the AppStore's comment section in case your too lazy to look or just don't feel like heading there.

INDIE BURST — Kris Little, the current owner of Indie Burst "resurrected" the site from the dead space of the internet. The site is a gaming site where they "feature the greatest indie games made by not-so-popular indie game developers". The games vary from Game Maker to C++, according to the site. Kris has updated the site, adding a new things to it. One new addition is the way you submit a game. You go to the Indie Burst Formspring and post a link of your game there. The team for the site has also changed, Vlad is no longer working with Kris and the "legendary" W!TS is also part of the team. The site will be getting a new layout soon, so stay tuned for another update. Hopefully this site stay up this time and possibly become a popular choice for playing indie games.

I AM NEITHER SAD NOR HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THAT GMIndie is on hiatus. Well, everything but Game Maker Gazette (which won't be run by me for a while).

GMIndie Radio Saturdays - Idle
Game Maker's Digest - Idle
GMIndie eBooks - Idle
GMIndie Hiring Center - Idle
GMIndie Podcasts - Idle
Game Maker Gazette - Actuve

I will be way too busy with my career, upcoming constant traveling, college, family reunion, my wedding, and other complications this fall and holiday season, so to save myself the trouble of over straining myself to almost certain death, I'm going to put GMIndie on hiatus. Since Game Maker Gazette doesn't completely belong to GMIndie (because it's owned independently by Kaitlyn and Mike, under GMIndie - that's why GMIndie owns it, in a sense), it won't be put on hiatus.

How long will GMIndie be on hiatus? No idea. And I have no idea how long it'll be til Kaitlyn and Mike grow bored of running the Gazette. The Gazette might be on hiatus soon too. And since we have no idea when this will all return, we can't tell you anything. We just hope that it won't have to be gone for good.

I'm trying to find people to take charge of things while I'm gone. My return may not be soon. It might possibly be years. We'll see.

I'm going to have a lot of fun, and more things to be constantly thankful for. Thanks everyone for your support of GMIndie. Hope we can continue to bring you scoops and stuff. Wish me luck good people. Good luck with your games!

Are you a GMIndie team member and possibly confused? Tweet @GMIndie for questions. Mike usually uses the GMIndie twitter. I won't be.

And good luck to all Competition 06 contestants. Hope the best win.

HOST-A HOSTING XSNIDALX's SERVER isn't allowing file downloads at the moment. Their website displays a MySQL error, "Error Mysql issues :("

XSnidalX posted a message on the home page earlier that said "While site work is in progress: if you experience any problems, let us know immediately and we will prompty fix your issue. There haven't been many issues, only two users reported having issues out of the 15,000 registered users of Host-a. If you're haven't any problems, please contact us"

The fix to this problem is to look below the main download link. You'll see 'Or, try a different server:'. Click on "HOST-A Direct" and the file will download.

HOST-A HOSTING is a famous Game Maker hosting website. The website is filled with thousands of Game Maker files, ranging from games and examples to graphics and other resources related to game maker.

Host-A displayed the following message: click here

The BAD news is that camzmac (former owner of Host-A) announced on his personal website (last month) that he was no longer the owner of Host-A. Instead, he handed his website over to a few of his friends to own and manage. In his own words, he says "I am sorry to say but this website may not be around for much longer".

Camzmac obviously doesn't expect the website to continue living. It it certain to suffer the same fate WillHostForFood's suffered. The sad part is that the owner doesn't have the intentions of continuing the services provided by the famous Host-A Hosting. Cross your fingers. Maybe everything will be fine, and all this fuss will have been for nothing... We can only hope. But I'm pretty sure that they're in the process of shutting down.

You can currently download files. You cannot currently upload any of your files. . Also, at this moment, people are getting both the message above (temporarily unavailable error), and a 404 Error message when visiting Host-A.

UpUrLoad is once again faced with a long DOWN time. This article will be edited to let you know when the website returns.

EDIT (5:44PM PST): UpUrLoad is back online.

Starting off with a kick-ass new game card, SigmaNine plans to have a bunch of competitions in the coming weeks and months starting of with May 23rd with 2 weeks to make your game, a week of judging, and then another competition! They're working on allowing you to edit your game information and getting that replacement game card finished. Ben says that they're also going to be making some changes to the forum template.

The magazine website for Overbyte has been redesigned.

One of the reasons was to eliminate spam from the spam bots they were getting, which was the primary reason they had originally blocked guests from replying. They've also switched hosts because their old one was unreliable.

Hopefully their nice new design will serve its purpose.

YoYo Games has updated their spotlight, like Sandy promised they would. Sandy mentioned in GMIndie Podcast II that it had gotten way behind and out of date. The spotlight only contains 3 games at the moment.

The spotlight now features:
1. Ninjammin Beat-jitsu created by LiamBarden
2. They Need To Be Fed created by 2Dcube
3. Nimbus Sky Princess created by SwordsaintKyo

It looks like they are working on the spotlight as we speak, because there are some weird errors.. and the spotlight seems a bit short.

Other errors are also visible on the YoYo Games front page as they are in the process of fixing the spotlight.

Should be completed soon. =)
UpUrLoad.com, a file hosting site mostly used by Game Maker users is down at the moment. The domain name seems to have expired. It should be back up shortly. Thanks for your patience in advanced.

All files are currently unavailable, but are still being hosted.

If you came on the Gazette looking for GMIndie Podcast III, you'll have to wait til UpUrLoad is back up before you can listen. Sorry for the inconvenience.
The YoYoGames Glog got a new look today, it is now 1024 pixels wide. It was originally only 800 pixels wide, and it looks completely different. One nice improvement is how nice code and scripting snippets appear now, long lines no longer run off the line onto the next.

It looks very much more professional now and will make articles look shorter, so make sure you post lots of information YoYoGames!

Today, Hach-Que announced that RoketGames is closing down due to time availability and financial reasons. This is sad news since RoketGames was a good place to upload games and had a very good instant play. This is what Hach-Que said
I remember when I started RoketGames, back in November 2009. We had no games and very little in terms of both features and users. RoketGames was born with the idea of providing the most feature rich publishing site for Game Maker games out there and while I firmly believe we've given it our best shot, it has unfortunately not been enough to sustain user interest in the site.

As of May 4th, we have 267 game entries and almost 500 members; we've come along way from November 2009. In addition, in the one and a half years RoketGames has been running, we've pioneered in areas such as commercial game support and game integration. 31 games to date have implemented our game integration to some extent, and while commercial game support hasn't been as popular, it's certainly given others an insight into the audience for such a project.

It is therefore very saddening to announce that as of May 7th there will be no further updates to the site, and as of the end of May, the site will be shutdown completely.

The reasons for this is both due to time availability and financial reasons; with a 3 month trip starting in July and ending in September, I'll be unable to perform updates, competitions or anything of that kind during the period. Unfortunately, the web hosting costs begin to pick up around that time and straight off the bat I'd have to fork up $240 USD for the VPS, an amount which I will not have.

In accordance with the original shutdown plan, we will be making our game integration system open source under an MIT license so that people may continue to use the system with their own servers.

It is unfortunate that I have had to make this decision and I thank all of you who have engaged in using our services and supported us over the years. I myself have enjoyed creating services that have helped indie game developers create better games and increase exposure.
Goodbye RoketGames, it's been fun.
